Spirituality | "What If God Was One Of Us?"

Joan Osbourne in the late 1990's wrote a song entitled "One Of Us" the songs took of on the pop charts for it's catchy melody and lyrics that almost anyone could relate to. Regardless of whether or not you thought God existed or believe that God was Jesus Christ, Buddha, Allah, or Barney the Dinosaur, the song begged the question: "What if God was one of us?"

The author of this song begins with her own questions about God but, the listener leaves with his or her own completely different set of questions. Spirituality by author Carl McColman leaves the reader feeling the same way. At the author's own admission "So I can promise you this book won't give you all the answers. But if it helps you to ask a few questions here and there, then as far as I'm concerned, it has done its job." (pg.xii).

Spirituality is the author's own personal diving into the questions of God from, sometimes, and objective standpoint. While the author does a good job of trying to be objective, there are times when his Episcopal background comes through and one sees reference to the teaching of Jesus Christ in the New Testament. While it's difficult to separate out one's beliefs when writing such a work Carl has done a great job. The book does bring up a great number of questions with know answers and has drawn me closer to God as I continue to find the answer's I'm searching for in the truth of the Bible and the teachings of Jesus.

Spirituality is thought provoking and challenging. A good read.
