While it's not a "biblical" principle. It really is like you said all about what you are saying in the form of prayer to God. This is actually worked pretty well for me as I have a hard time focusing during silent prayer. Doing this exercise helps me to really focus my attentions on God. If turning your palms up and down help you experience God more I don't know what to say. It's not Biblical.
